Highway Sign of the Week

The Highway Sign of the Week Test Drive has been completed and the site is parked in the garage.

I've been focusing my efforts on The Bridges and Tunnels of Allegheny County and Pittsburgh, PA website. However, if you have a request for a particular sign to be drawn, send a reference photo via e-mail and I'll put on the To Do pile.

HSOTW is focussed on the specially-named highways, such as the Lincoln Highway or the Great River Route. But I will consider other requests. Comments on the routes represented are welcome.

These signs are intended to supplement those who are creating non-commercial sites. The graphics are free for use only in non-commercial sites and I hope users would be kind enough to put in a credit. Please contact me to discuss commercial use of the images.

The graphics are available in a range of sizes to make it easier for others to incorporate them into their sites.

James Lin's Route Markers website offers an extensive collection of signs for numbered highways with a few signs for named highways. Richard Moeur's Manual of Traffic Signs shows the standard warning, regulatory and guide signs found on the roads of the United States.

The "twin rivers" are the Monongahela and Youghiogheny in southwestern Allegheny County. The Twin Rivers Scenic Road seems to have been a low-budget tourist and economic development plan. Similar to the Allegheny County Belt Route system, it linked existing roads to help navigation through the area. But while the Belt Route signage is meticulously maintained, the Twin Rivers signs have steadily disappeared over the years -- making it difficult to trace the route. Signs may be found on PA48 in White Oak and Versailles, and on riverside roads in Lincoln Boro and Elizabeth Twp.

Midway across Kansas is Abilene, where the boyhood home of Eisenhower is located. K-15 passes by the Eisenhower Center.
